1. BRIEF PROFILE OF THE UNIVERSITY

The Bharathiar University was established at Coimbatore by the Government of TamilNadu in February, 1982 under the provision of the Bharathiar University Act, 1981 (Act I of 1982). The University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi, recognized the University in May 1985. Bharathiar University is a member of the Association of Indian Universities and Commonwealth Universities; hence, the degrees awarded are mutually recognized by each other.

Bharathiar University is accredited with ‘A’ Grade by NAAC and placed among the top ten universities at the national level. The University is situated at the backdrop of Maruthamalai Hills in the Western Ghat range, in a sprawling campus of 1000 acres of land, 15 kms from the City of Coimbatore. As of now, the University has 102 affiliated Colleges – 90 Arts and Science Colleges, 11 Management Institutions and 1 Air Force Administration College. In addition, there are 21 Research Institutes of the State and Central Governments, which are recognized by the University for Research purpose. At present Bharathiar University has 237 Partner institutions spread over India and 1 Partner institution at Nepal.

2. CENTRE FOR PARTICIPATORY PROGRAMMES (CPP)

Participatory programme is an ingenious concept developed by Bharathiar University wherein colleges and institutions with facilities and faculty through out India are Identified and approved as partners of Bharathiar University to offer various programmes as regular, weekend programmes to help achieve higher grass enrollment ratio and higher literacy rate but without compromising on the standard of education imparted.
